Truck/ATV Fogging
The Chiloquin Vector Control District tracks mosquito populations to learn where viruses, like West Nile, could potentially spread in a community. Mosquito populations are monitored by field technicians and customer complaints in order to help direct spray operations. Spraying insecticides from a truck or ATV areways to safely kill mosquitoes in an area, especially when people in the community are getting sick or highly affected from mosquito bites. There are different types of sprayers that can be put on a truck or ATV. The DIstrict utilizes ULV fold foggers on the ATVs and trucks, which are also monitored via GPS technology.
Truck spraying is used to:
- Control and reduce the number of mosquitoes that can spread viruses.
- Reduce your chances of getting infected with viruses.
What are mosquito control trucks and ATV spraying?
Mosquito control trucks and ATVs spray very small amounts of insecticide into the air to kill mosquitoes. This spray is a n ultra fine 'mist' that acts as a fogger in the area.
What does the insecticide spray do?
Adulticide sprays immediately kill flying mosquitoes. The adulticide provides temporary relieve from mosquitoes as it does not affect the source. The adulticide fog leave no residual.
When does spraying occur?
Spraying takes place in the early evening when mosquitoes are most active and benificial insects are least active.
How often does Chiloquin Vector Control spray?
In the past, the Vector Control DIstrict used to spray all neighborhoods on a routine schedule. Some neighborhoods used to be sprayed every week. This habit has long since been abandoned as it causes havic on the environment and reates more issues than it solves. Unless mosquitoes are present, and complaints are received, most neighborhoods may not have a truck/ATV fog very often. If you are experiencing mosquitoes, please submit a service request.
Is the spray harmful to people, pets, animals, or the environment?
No, when done correctly, truck spaying will not harm people, pets, animals, or the environment.
What should I do during or after spraying?
You do not need to leave an area when truck or ATV spraying for mosquito control takes place. If you prefer to stay inside and close windows and doors when spraying takes place you can, but it is not necessary. If you are having any type of health problems after spraying, contact your doctor or healthcare provider. The spray does not harm pets, but you may choose to bring them inside when spraying occurs.
